NASHVILLE – Jax State wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with the second day of action at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks will now prepare for the CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
A Gamecock quartet of
Emma Drinkard,
Amber Bailey, Chidinma Margareymary Agu and Tucker took home second place in the 4x400 with a 3:41.28 time. Jax State placed between Vanderbilt's A and B teams.
Freshman
Uduak Pius Udosoh set the third best mark in program history in the 400m dash with a time of 54.24. She placed third in the event, just three spots ahead of Agu who placed sixth with a time of 54.64.
"The 400 group ran really well," said Jax State head coach
Jeremy Provence, "It was really good seeing Uduak and Chidinma in the open 400."
Cayla Johnson put on a show this weekend in a few events, including a third place finish in the shot put final. She also placed sixth in the 100m hurdle semifinal, qualifying for the finals, where she placed sixth once again.
"Cayla had a busy weekend in the field and she made the most of it. She had a season best in the long jump, shot put and javelin," said Provence, "We have seen a lot of growth out of her and are excited to see her in the heptathlon."
Hailey Tucker led Jax State in the 100m hurdles, placing second in the first round before taking home third in the finals.
Chaci Whitfield capped of Jax State's day in the hurdles, placing 14th in the 400m hurdle with a 1:06.24 finish. She placed third in her heat, just three seconds off of the first place finisher in her heat.
Nicola Peters led the Gamecocks in the 100m with a 12.21 second eighth place finish. Senior Jaliah Loving qualified for the open 100m final, earning eighth place with a 12.34 second time.
Jadyn Bonds rounded out Jax State's day in the field, clearing a height of 1.62 in the high jump.

Emily Coddington set a new program record in the 5000m, being trailed closely by freshman
Olivia King.
"Emily and Olivia had a great race in the 5k," said Provence, "It was great to see Emily go out in style by setting a new program record."
The Jax State Track & Field team preps for the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning on May 16 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
