JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped an intrastate battle, 1-0, to the Samford Bulldogs on Thursday night at the Jax State Soccer Complex. The Gamecocks fall to 1-2-2 on the year, while Samford picks up its first win and moves to 1-2-1.
Neither side was able to break through in the first half. The Bulldogs had the edge in shots, 6-1, but
Ella Holmberg was able to stop four shots and collect four saves in the first half. Samford also tallied four corner kicks to Jax State's one.
In the second half, the Gamecocks were able to hold off the Bulldogs attack until the 79th minute, when Brooklyn Miller was able to push a left-footed shot just past Holmberg in the box to put the lone goal of the night on the board.Â
Holmberg ended the night with six saves, compared to zero saves by Samford. The Bulldogs ended the night with advantages in shots (16-3) and corners (8-1).
Jax State returns to action on Sunday, August 31, as they travel to Huntsville for the second time this season to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. Action begins at 3 p.m. from the Bulldog Soccer Field.
