JACKSONVILLE—The first home game of the 2025 Jax State football season also opens up conference play this morning as the Gamecocks play host to Liberty at 11 a.m. Central Time at AmFirst Stadium as the last two Conference USA champions open league play with each other.
The Gamecocks came up short in their season opener with a 17-10 loss at UCF last Thursday. Jax State was outgained by 100 yards with UCF totaling 185 total yards in the fourth quarter to just 64 by the Gamecocks in the final 15 minutes.
On defense, Jax State was led by
Trevor Woods with eight tackles.
Chase Alexander added two for loss with a sack, and forced a fumble.
Cam Cook was the catalyst on offense with 75 on the ground and 43 receiving.
Liberty was a 28-7 winner over Maine last week, scoring 28 unanswered after trailing 7-0 early in the second. The Flames took advantage of a turnover and got a touchdown pass from Ethan Vasko to Reese Smith with seven seconds left in the half to tie the game at the intermission. Liberty rushed for 194 yards and had 197 through the air.
Vasko accounted for all four touchdowns, throwing for three and rushing for a fourth.
The Flames won the previous meeting at AmFirst Stadium on October 10, 2023 by the count of 31-13. Jax State won last year's meeting in Lynchburg, 31-21 on October 30
th.
