Men’s Basketball Travels to Liberty in Battle of CUSA Unbeatens

LYNCHBURG, Va.—Two of the four Conference USA teams to win their first two league games will meet at Liberty Arena on Sunday in a rematch of the 2025 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship when Jax State faces Liberty at 1 p.m. Central.
 
The Gamecocks picked up a 67-64 win at Delaware on Friday, surviving the best individual performance it has had to face this season. Christian Bliss accounted for 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting which included five 3-pointers; all of which were the most an individual player has done against Jax State this year. Jax State got 19 points from its bench and the Fightin' Blue Hens got zero. Senior guard Mostapha El Moutaouakkil had a team-high 22 points, his highest production since a career-high 33 on November 14th against Coastal Carolina. El Moutaouakkil was 7-of-11 from the field and added five rebounds.
 
AC Bryant had his third consecutive multi-3-point performance and third straight double-figure scoring performance with 12 points on 3-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and was 3-of-4 at the free throw line.
 
Freshman Jacoby Hill added eight points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists after posting a career-high 14 points against Western Kentucky.
 
The Flames come in with a 10-3 overall record and have won their last seven contests at Liberty Arena. Liberty won at FIU in overtime by three and was an 81-73 winner on Friday against Kennesaw State.
 
Senior Zach Cleveland averages 10.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game and is on the Lou Henson Award Early Season Watch List. He's coming off a season-high 20 points, highlighted by a dunk that was the No. 2 play on SportsCenter Top 10.
 
Sophomore guard Brett Decker Jr. is the leading scorer at 18.2 points per game and shoots 52.5% from 3-point range with 53 makes in 13 games. Fifth-year guard Kaden Metheny adds 13.9 points per game and is second on the team in assists at 3.4.
 
This is the ninth meeting all-time with each side having won four previous meetings. The last time the Gamecocks won in Lynchburg was on January 10, 2024 by the score of 61-51.
