DALLAS—Jax State sophomore offensive lineman Lance Johnson was named Conference USA Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season.
Â
The Birmingham native helped the Gamecocks rack up a season-high 324 yards rushing on 47 carries in a 24-0 win at New Mexico State on Wednesday to keep Jax State unbeaten in Conference USA. The Gamecocks are the only Conference USA team to rush for 300 or more yards in a game this season and the 6.9 yards per carry they amassed is fourth-best in the league this year.
Â
Additionally, Johnson and the rest of the Jax State offensive line helped quarterback Caden Creel rush for 213 yards, becoming the first Jax State QB to rush for 200 or more yards in a game in program history and come within a yard of recording the most rushing yards by a Conference USA quarterback in the league's history.
Â
With the win, the Gamecocks improved to 6-2 on the year, becoming bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season in their fourth year at the FBS level.
Â
Jax State will host Sam Houston on Saturday for Homecoming at 6 p.m. The game will air on CBS Sports Network.
