JACKSONVILLE – Men's tennis looks to stay unbeaten Wednesday against Alabama A&M. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start time at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
Jax State (5-0) is fresh off a 4-1home win against rival Troy on Saturday, Feb. 14. Meanwhile, Alabama A&M (0-5) is coming off a 4-3 loss at Georgia State on Feb. 14.
Against Troy, Jax State dropped the doubles point before rattling off four consecutive wins in singles to secure the victory.
Charlie Penman got the winning rolling in singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court one over Troy's Ausias Martin Melo. On court six,
Alin Fatu then put the Gamecocks ahead 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Ryusei Miyazato.
David Krasner won the first and second set of his match on court two by a score of 6-3 to make it match point for the Gamecocks.
Aman Dahiya closed out the victory on court three with a 6-3 first set win and a 7-5 second set final.
Jax State has been impressive in singles play thus far, boasting a 24-4 record as a team. Dahiya is 4-0,
Timo De Visser is 4-0, Fatu is 4-0,
Zach Murphy is 2-0, and
Lucius Soller 2-0. Penman is 2-2 on the year, while
Matei Palcau is 1-2, respectively.
In doubles play, the Gamecocks are 9-5 this spring. The doubles teams of Penman and Fatu and Murphy and Soller are tied for a team-best 2-0 record. Soller and Krasner are 1-1, while Krasner and
Marko Milosavljevic are 0-1. Fatu and Krasner are 1-0 when paired up, while Fatu and Palcau are 1-0 when teamed up.
Jax State heads to Georgia Tech on Friday, Feb. 20, following the match against Alabama A&M.
