DALLAS—Jax State graduate student Charlie Penman was named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his efforts in his team's fifth-consecutive win of the season.
 
The native of Harrietsham, England was a 6-0, 6-3 winner in his No. 1 Singles match against Troy's Ausias Martin Melo to improve to 2-2 on the year in singles play and gave the Gamecocks a 4-1 victory over Troy on Saturday.
 
This is the second year in a row Penman has picked up a weekly honor from CUSA; he was athlete of the week on March 12^th last season after going 2-0 against Tennessee State and Xavier.
 
The Gamecocks will host Alabama A&M at 1:30 this afternoon.
