TROY, Ala. – Jacksonville State women's tennis heads to rival Troy Thursday at 1 p.m. The Gamecocks are currently 4-3 after a 4-0 win against Alabama A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Against Alabama A&M, the Gamecocks took the doubles point thanks in large part to a dominant showing on court one from
Aneka Patel and
Polina Ramenskaja who won 6-0.
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court three.
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola were up 4-3 on court two but the match went unfinished when the Gamecocks clinched.
Patel won the first singles match over Alabama A&M's Gabrielle Henderson with a 6-3 first set win and a 6-3 second set win. Kaneko then won 6-3, 6-2 on court five to put the Gamecocks in front 3-0. With match point on the line,
Alba Roche downed Naomi Blanks 6-3, 6-1 on court six to give the Gamecocks the win.
In singles play this season, Jax State is 21-13. Ramenskaja is 4-1, Kaneko is 4-2, Artigas is 3-1, and Patel is 3-1, respectively. Sambola is 3-3 this season, Rodriguez-Rizo is 2-4, Roche is 1-1, and
Emma Montagner is 1-0.
In doubles, the Gamecocks have compiled a 12-6 record as a squad. The duo of Rodriguez-Rizo and Kaneko lead the way with a 5-2 mark, Artigas and Sambola are 3-1, and Patel and Ramenskaja are 3-2. Montagner and Ramenskaja are 1-0 when teamed up, while Ramenskaja and Roche are 0-1 on the year.
After the trip to Troy, the women's tennis team returns to the Jax State Tennis Courts on Sunday, March 1 to take on Louisiana Tech at 12 p.m.
