LAFAYETTE, La. — After picking up three wins throughout the weekend, Jax State was unable to tally a fourth as the Gamecocks dropped its final game of the Louisiana Classic, falling 8-7 to Tulsa on Sunday afternoon.
Following the loss, Jax State now holds a 3-2 record on the year.
It didn't take long for the bats to get hot for both teams as Tulsa posted a run in the opening frame, and Jax State responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a three-run blast by
Kailey Martin, her first home run of the year, to put her team ahead.
However, after Tulsa posted five runs in the second inning, the Gamecocks had to play from behind the rest of the way.
The Golden Hurricane pushed the deficit even further, adding two more in the fifth frame in which a late rally by the Gamecocks would not be enough to overcome.
Martin and
Aria Davis both finished their days with two hits apiece, with Martin claiming three RBIs on the day.
Throughout the weekend, Martin picked up seven hits, eight RBIs and is currently batting .389 on the year.
Maddie Mayo,
Makalyn Kyser,
Jaci Underwood and Hayleigh Cushingberry each picked up a hit in the losing effort as well.
The Gamecocks will travel south for their next slate of games, heading to Mobile for the South Alabama Invitational. Jax State will take on UAB, Western Michigan and South Alabama, starting Friday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.
