Baseball Wins 10th-Straight, Sweeps Memphis on Sunday

Gamecocks sweep second consecutive weekend series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jax State put five runs on the board in the final three innings to take the final game against Memphis, 7-1, to earn a road sweep of the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.

The win signifies Jax State's 10th-straight victory on the season, and the Gamecocks now move to 10-2 so far in 2026.

The game was also the third-straight game that the Gamecocks put 10 or more hits on the board.

Beau Bryans earned his first victory of the season with five innings of work, giving up zero earned runs and fanning four. Memphis (3-8) southpaw David Case took the loss as he gave up the first two runs to Jax State in his outing.

Like Saturday, Jax State got on the board in the top of the first inning, but this time Trey King belted a solo shot 357 feet to right field to give Jax State a 1-0 lead. The second run of the day came on an RBI-single from Grayson Ashe, scoring Cooper Blauser.

Memphis would answer in the bottom of the sixth when a combination of Gamecock errors allowed a runner to come home, but that would be the only run conceded by Jax State.

Blauser's RBI-single to left in the top of the seventh would bring Luke Williams home and build the lead back up to two runs at 3-1. The lead would grow to three runs shortly after when a throwing error by a Memphis pitcher would bring Blauser home, making it 4-1.

Caleb Johnson launched his second homer of the year in the top of the eighth , bringing home Matthew Cash with him to make it a 6-1 lead over the Tigers.

Ashe brought King home in the top of the ninth for a six-run lead, scoring on the catcher's sac fly. Memphis never threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning, sealing Jax State's 7-1 win and the sweep.

Jax State turned seven double plays during the weekend, with two in each of the first two games and three today. Johnson had two unassisted line-out double plays this weekend, once on Friday and one today.

In total, the Gamecocks stole 10 bases over the weekend, only getting caught once on the basepath.

Jax State remains on the road to take on Alabama on Tuesday afternoon before returning home to take on Valparaiso for a weekend series. Tuesday's game begins at 4 p.m. from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
