HARAHAN, La.—The top-ranked Jax State bowling team clinched a spot in the Conference USA championship match for the third consecutive year this morning with a 2-0 win over third-seeded Arkansas State in a Mega Match.
The Gamecocks won the traditional match 1,061-930 behind a 246 from Annalise Obryant, then won the five Baker game total pinfall portion of the match 1,040-977 to head through to the championship final out of the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
Obryant opened the traditional match with four straight strikes and registered nine or better on each of her first 10 attempts.
Erin Klemencic added a 236, registering nine or better on all but the fill ball in the 10
th.
Kaitlyn Stull added an even 200 to the total.
Jax State led the Baker portion 227-203 after striking on four of their first five and adding a double in the sixth. Arkansas State took advantage of the Gamecocks leaving two frames open with a 204-187 win to cut their deficit to seven, then took a five-pin lead through three games after a 182-170 win, with the Gamecocks leaving two more open.
The Gamecocks closed the fourth game with four straight strikes to win 213-196 and take a 12-pin advantage into the final game. During the final game, Jax State had seven strikes and two single-pin spares through nine frames to cruise to a 243-192 win to clinch the match.
Sunday's championship will start at 8:30 a.m. and will air on ESPN+. The Gamecocks will face either LA Tech or Arkansas State in a mega match.
