JACKSONVILLE — The Jax State Gamecocks will head west to take on the UAB Blazers on Tuesday, March 24. Action from Young Memorial Field in Birmingham is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
Jax State is 21-4 after sweeping the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers last weekend, remaining Conference USA's only undefeated team in league play. Jax State scored 10 runs and knocked over 10 hits in the Friday and Sunday games. Sunday marked the second time in conference play that the Gamecocks had a run-rule victory, shutting out WKU to win 10-0 in just eight innings. The shutout victory was the second CUSA shutout for Jax State since May 10 2025 over LA Tech and first time since April 2024 that WKU was shut out in a CUSA game.
UAB comes in with a 14-10 record and is 1-2 in the American Conference. The Blazers traveled to Keith LeClair Stadium to take on the East Carolina Pirates to open American play, falling in two games to the Pirates.
Jax State has claimed a spot in a national poll, appearing as No. 25 in this week's Perfect Game rankings. The Gamecocks are also receiving votes in other major polls, the USA Today Coaches Poll (15 points, 31st-most) and the National College Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) poll. Jax State is also ranking highly in several mid-major polls, coming in at No. 4 in 6-4-3 Charts Diamond Sports Rankings Mid-Major poll and No. 9 in 11.7's Mid-Major Power Rankings. PEARatings has Jax State at No. 3 in the mid-major NET ratings. 64Analytics actually has the Gamecocks at the highest mark of any ranking at No. 20.
Jax State has the fourth-most double plays in Division I. The team is tied with California, La Salle, and ULM with 25. The teams ahead of the Gamecocks are Butler (#1, 29), Tarleton State (#2, 28), New Orleans, and Vanderbilt (both #3, 26).
Head Coach Steve Bieser earned his 400 career victory on Friday, March 20, 2026. After racking up 138 wins at SEMO, Bieser earned 188 victories at Mizzou prior to coming to Jax State, arriving in Jacksonville with 326 total wins. As of March 23, he has earned 76 wins with the Gamecocks for a total of 402 wins.
The Gamecocks boast the second-highest RPI in CUSA at No. 36. Missouri State currently leads the pack at No. 9. Other teams under 100 are Liberty (No. 57), Louisiana Tech (No. 66), Dallas Baptist (No. 77), Kennesaw State (No. 95), and Western Kentucky (No. 99).
