
Gamecocks Host Kennesaw State For Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jacksonville State women's basketball is set to conclude the 2025-26 regular season at home Saturday afternoon against Kennesaw State. The Gamecocks will honor their six seniors, Eden Sample, Mya Barnes, Adriana Jones, Maria Sanchez-Ponce, Vitoria Carvalho, and Brooklyn McDaniel, prior to the game.

Last Time Out
Last week, the Gamecocks went 1-1 at UTEP and New Mexico State. Jax State lost 66-64 at UTEP, but Barnes had impressive 20-point, 10 rebound double-double. Barnes had nine points and 10 rebounds in the first quarter against the Miners. In the 57-38 win at NMSU, Barnes led the way with 13 points, Jones had 12 points, and Kyera Thornsbury tallied 11 points. Barnes had four blocks and tied for a team-best six rebounds against the Aggies.
March Madness
Following the rivalry matchup Saturday between Jax State and Kennesaw State, the Gamecocks head to Huntsville, Ala., for the 2025-26 CUSA Basketball Championship Tournament. Jax State is locked in as the seven-seed for the tournament. The only other team locked in with their seed is one-seed LA Tech. Jax State was predicted to finish in last place (12th) in the preseason poll.
Barnes' Double-Doubles
Against UTEP on Feb. 26, Barnes recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Barnes had a double-double against Mercer (Dec. 6), Brewton-Parker (Dec. 9), Presbyterian (Dec. 21), FIU (Jan. 8), Kennesaw State (Jan. 17), LA Tech (Feb. 19), and Sam Houston (Feb. 21). Barnes is also the first Gamecock to have back-to-back double-doubles since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season. She had three-straight double-doubles in the three most recent Jax State contests.

Mya Barnes ranks fifth in CUSA with an average of 1.3 blocks per game. Barnes is sixth in the conference averaging 2.0, made threes per game, tied for fifth in the league with an average of 8.3 rebounds per game and is 17th in CUSA averaging 11.3 points. As a team, Jax State is first in defense allowing teams to only score 58.2 points per game.
McDaniel's Career Day
McDaniel set a career-high 21 points and a career-best 13 rebounds against Sam Houston on Feb. 21. The double-double was McDaniel's first career double-double and made her the fourth Gamecock to record a double-double this season. Barnes has eight double-doubles, Mina Djurdjevic has one, and Vitoria Carvalho has one. McDaniel had 19 at UTEP on Feb. 26.
Series History
In the season's first matchup between Kennesaw State and Jax State, the Gamecocks won 74-47 at Kennesaw State. The Gamecocks shot an incredible 48.2% (27-of-56) from the floor and 50.0% (14-of-28) from three. The 14 threes against the Owls are a season-high from Jax State. The Gamecocks had four players in double figures including Barnes leading with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Makala Hobdy with 15 points, Sample with 13 points, and Thornsbury with 10 points.
