Gamecocks Fall to UNA in Straight Sets at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Jax State volleyball fell Saturday evening 3-0 against UNA at the 2026 Samford Invitational. The loss was Jax State's sixth-straight.
The Gamecocks were led by Claire Evans with seven kills. Taya Nordmann had five kills and Izzy Whittaker added four. Nordmann led the Red-and-White with four total blocks, Whittaker had two, and D'Yanna Spicer also had two. Sofia Varela had a team-best 13 assists, while Addison Stone tallied seven.
Delaney Moon set a new career-high with 20 digs against the Lions. Moon previously had a career-high of 19 digs against Siena while playing for Fairfield University.
The Gamecocks had 24 kills, two aces, both by Sofia Varela, seven blocks, 21 assists, and 33 digs as a team in the match.
The Lions took the match 25-18 in the first set, 25-13 in the second, and 25-17 in the third set to sweep the Gamecocks. UNA stayed perfect and improved to 10-0 with the victory against Jax State. UNA was led by Reese Rickets with 13 kills and three aces, Jenna Kolosta with four blocks, Kinslee McGowan with 30 assists, and Ricketts with 11 digs.
In the first set, Jax State went on an early 4-0 run to go up 7-5. Later, Evans capped a 3-0 run with a kill to make it 11-7. UNA went on a 6-0 run to go up 18-15 and never lost the lead again. UNA scored four-straight later to go up 23-17 before taking the set win.
Jax State is back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Samford. The match will be streaming live on ESPN+.
