Gamecocks 11th in Deep Field in Lexington

Jax State took 11th in a field with SEC, Big Ten, and Big XII competition at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Course.
As a team, the Gamecocks were +37 with a 54-hole total of 901, starting and finishing the tournament with rounds of 302 with a 297 in the second round.
"This team has shown how competitive they can be in the moments we play with confidence and aggression," said coach Robbie Fields. "We've got to do a better job sustaining positive momentum and energy when we have it, and a better job creating it with more detail in our preparation. We will get some rest and prepare for our next opportunity."
Lara El Chaib posted her second Top 20 in as many tournaments with a one-over total of 217 for the tournament. The junior opened with a two-under round of 70 and followed it up with an even par 72 to finish Monday at -2 with six total birdies on the day. She finished the tournament with a three-over 75 during Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Julie Ulvenes Kleppe tied for 34th at +7. After opening with a 76, she came back with a 72 in the second before closing with a 75.
Caitlin Shippam posted back-to-back rounds of 75 on Monday with a 78 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 48th at +12. Sophia Blake tied for 65th with rounds of 81, 78, and 76. Ashley Stevenson rounded out the lineup in 74th with a total of 244 (88-80=76).
The Gamecocks will be back in action at their second SEC tournament of the season at Mississippi State's The Ally at Old Waverly starting October 5th.
