Ray Harper added a familiar face to his staff in the summer of 2022, hiring Nick Covington to serve as the program's coordinator of basketball operations.
Covington joined JSU from Salt Lake Community College in Utah, where he helped the Bruins to an 84-11 record over the past three seasons and a trio of NJCAA tournament berths. Last season, SLCC finished 35-2 as national runner-up in the NJCAA national tournament.Â
Â
Covington transferred his senior year of college from Weber State and joined Harper at Oklahoma City in 2006-07. As a First Team All-Sooner Conference selection and NAIA Third Team All-American, Covington led Harper’s OCU team to a 30-2 mark and NAIA national championship.
Â
Following college, Covington played professionally from 2008-18 in Austria, Ireland, Estonia, Romania, Turkey, Colombia, Poland, and Africa. He also spent time in the NBA-D League, where he participated in the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase 3-Point Contest, as well as playing in the NBA Summer League in 2013 with the NBA D-League All-Stars and 2014 with the Utah Jazz. In 2017, he began coaching the Utah Mountain Stars AAU program based out of Salt Lake City prior to joining the staff at SLCC.Â
