Garrett Skelton joined the Gamecocks staff full-time in the summer of 2023 following his tenure as head manager and after two seasons as Director of Player Development at Jax State, Garrett Skelton has been promoted to Assistant Softball Coach.
“Coach Garrett's loyalty to this program, his genuine care for our players, and his dedication to helping our team improve every day made this an easy decision,” said Boland, “I'm excited to see him thrive in this new role and continue impacting our program in positive ways.”
Skelton was a crucial piece of a staff that saw Jax State post 37 wins in 2025 and make a run to the CUSA title game. The 37-win mark in 2025 was the most since the Gamecocks won 41 games in 107, took home the OVC Regular Season and Tournament Titles and made an appearance in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
"Garrett (Skelton) has proven he is a vital piece to our softball program. He is an alumni, and after spending several seasons as our head equipment manager, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to hire him full time," said head coach Jana McGinnis during his hiring as Director of Player Development in 2024.
