JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will be at home for a pair of games this weekend, starting with a 7:30 p.m. meeting with Murray State on Thursday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks (8-6, 2-3 Ohio Valley Conference) will welcome the top two teams in the OVC Preseason Poll this weekend, with the top-ranked Racers (8-7, 2-3 OVC) visiting on Thursday. UT Martin, who was ranked second in the poll, will come calling at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The two-game homestand will be a welcomed sight for JSU, who just got back from a two-game road swing in Kentucky and will begin a four-game road stretch next week.
The Gamecocks have dropped their last two games, falling at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday before dropping the final game of the trip at Morehead on Saturday.
Thursday's game marks the 10th meeting in the all-time series between Jacksonville State and Murray State, with the Racers having won all nine previous bouts. The Racers remain the lone OVC team that JSU has yet to defeat.
The Gamecocks currently have five players averaging in double figures in scoring, led by sophomore
Jeremy Bynum's 11.2 points per game. Senior
Jonathan Toles and freshman
Brandon Crawford are each averaging 11.0 points per contest, while sophomore
Nick Murphy, who has scored in double figures in each of his last nine games, is averaging 10.9 points per game. Freshman Forward
Geddes Robinson is scoring 10.4 points per contest after leading all scorers with 23 points in Saturday's game at Morehead State.
