The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will take on Eastern Kentucky on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT in a key early-season Ohio Valley Conference matchup.
The Gamecocks (8-4, 2-1 OVC) open a two-game Ohio Valley Conference road trip on Thursday looking to find success in a place that hasn't been good to the Gamecocks over the years. In their sixth year in the OVC, the Gamecocks have yet to win at EKU (7-7, 1-3 OVC) in five previous meetings, despite trailing the all-time series by just a single game. The trip, which will end with the Gamecocks facing Morehead State on Saturday, is the back half of a stretch of four league games in eight days for JSU.
The Gamecocks split a pair of OVC games in Pete Mathews Coliseum over the weekend, falling to Eastern Illinois on Saturday before claiming a 71-66 win over Southeast Missouri on Monday night. Against the Redhawks on Monday, sophomore Nick Murphy (12 pts., 10 reb.) and junior Amadou Mbodji (10 pts., 10 reb.) became the first JSU duo to record a double-double in the same game since the 2006-07 season.
Sophomore Jeremy Bynum led the Gamecocks against SEMO with 15 points, while senior Jonathan Toles added 10. Toles and senior DeAndre Bray each dished five assists in the win.
Bray, a native of Atlanta, increased his career assists total to 458, just one shy of Robert Lee Sanders in sixth and three away from Earl Warren in fifth place on the school's career assists list. He had two steals in the game to give him 132 for his career, one away from Scott Watson in third place on JSU's Division I career steals list.
The Colonels have dropped their last four games, including an 82-79 loss at first-place Austin Peay on Monday night.
Both games this weekend will be carried live on the JSU Radio Network with Mike Parris calling the action.
