BOX SCORE
JACKSONVILLE – Senior
Karla Pittman shut down the Tennessee Tech offense again on Sunday, when the Jacksonville State softball team capped its three-game sweep of the Golden Eagles with a 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference win at University Field.
Pittman, the Gamecocks' 5-foot-2 ace from North Canton, Ohio, did not allow a runner past second base in her second-straight shutout of the Golden Eagles (23-26, 9-9 OVC), who failed to score a run in a three-game conference series for the first time in their program's history. It was also the first time an opponent went scoreless in a three-game set against the Gamecocks (30-9, 14-1 OVC), who extended their season-best winning streak to 13 games.
Tennessee Tech managed just five hits off of Pittman (11-1), who struck out six batters and walked one in seven innings of work. She earned the win in her ninth-straight decision and dropped her ERA to a team-best 1.11. She has not allowed an earned run in her last 26.2 innings in the circle.
The Gamecock offense picked up just four hits but was able to send enough across to provide Pittman all the cushion she would need. Senior
Jackie Jarman broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, when her sacrifice fly to left allowed freshman pinch runner
Kaycee Crow to score from third.
JSU got its other three runs in the home half of the sixth, thanks to a two-run double to the gap in left center by freshman
Allison Svoboda and Jarman's second sacrifice fly of the afternoon.
Freshman
Meredith Sellers picked up half of the Gamecocks' hits in the game. The Columbiana, Ala., native went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while Svoboda and Jarman had the team's other two base hits.
Lacie Coquerille went 2-for-3 to lead the TTU offense, which left six runners on base in the game. Holly Thomas (12-13) suffered the loss in the circle for the Golden Eagles after surrendering four runs, three earned, on four hits in six innings of work. She walked four batters and did not record a strikeout.
The Gamecocks will be in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Kennesaw, Ga., for a single game at Kennesaw State. The game will begin at 5 p.m. CT and will be carried live on the JSU Radio Network with
Mike Parris calling the action. Live audio and live stats will be available at www.jsugamecocksports.com.
