THIBODAUX, La. – Ryan Perrilloux threw four touchdowns and rushed for another to lead Jacksonville State to a 60-10 win over Nicholls State as eight different players scored a touchdown for the Gamecocks.
Perrilloux, from nearby LaPlace, La., accounted for five touchdowns for the second straight week. He was 14-for-22 for 250 yards, while rushing for 58 more yards on seven carries as the Gamecocks improved to 2-2 on the season.
The Gamecocks took the early lead after Perrilloux tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Howard with 1:40 left in the first quarter. Patrick Tatum kicked the point after to give Jax State the 7-0 lead.
Jacksonville State took their next possession and marched 51 yards in eight plays to build a 14-0 lead after Calvin Middleton scored on a one-yard run with 11:35 left in the second quarter, before Nicholls State's Robert Schexnayder kicked a 48-yard field to cut the lead to 14-3.
The Gamecocks then added two late touchdowns over the final 1:22 of the half as Greg Smith caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Perrilloux to make the score 21-3, before JSU recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to setup the next score. Perrilloux connected with James Wilkerson on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give Jax State a 27-3 lead at the half.
Jamal Young returned the second half kickoff 95 yards to give the Gamecocks a 34-3 lead with 14:48 left in the third quarter, before Jax State scored four straight touchdowns to blow open the game.
Justin Howard caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Perrilloux with 6:29 left in the third, while Jahron Brown scored on a one-yard run to make the score 47-3 with 3:53 left in the third quarter.
Perrilloux scampered 38 yards to score his fifth touchdown of the day with 14:39 left as the Gamecocks built a 53-3 lead to open the fourth quarter of play.
Nicholls State scored its only touchdown on a two-yard run by Laquinton Cason with 12:05 left in the game to cut the lead to 53-10, before Marques Ivory threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kevyn Cooper for the final margin.
Ten different Gamecock receivers caught a pass in the game, led by La'Ray Williams with 63 yards on two catches, while Alan Bonner had 48 yards on a pair of catches, followed by Greg Smith with 44 yards on one catch and James Wilkerson had 43 yards on three catches.
Jax State finished with more than 200 rushing yards for the first time this season and was led by Young with 65 yards on 12 carries, while Perrilloux added 58 on seven carries.
Jacksonville State plays its home-opener next Saturday against UT Martin. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Paul Snow Stadium.
