2009 OUTLOOK: Enters the fall as the No. 1 safety for the Gamecocks…worked hard during the spring to improve his game…expected to be one of the leaders of the Gamecock defense.
JSU CAREER:
2008: Started all 11 games in the defensive backfield for the Gamecocks as a junior…earned First-Team All-OVC honors, was a Third-Team All-America selection by the Associated Press, and Honorable Mention All-American by the Sports Network and a College Sports Network Fabulous 50 Selection…was second on the team with 66 tackles, 38 solo, including a sack and four stops for a loss…had two interceptions and recovered three fumbles while forcing another…also blocked a kick and broke up five passes…recorded seven solo tackles, including one sack for eight yards against Tennessee State (11/15)...posted seven tackles, three solos, with one fumble forced and a fumble recovery versus Tennessee Tech (11/8)...registered 10 tackles, six solos, and intercepted a pass versus Austin Peay (11/1)...posted four tackles, two solos, versus UT Martin (10/23)...recorded four tackles, three solos, and a pass break up against Murray State (10/18)...made a career-high 13 tackles, with six solos against Eastern Kentucky (10/11)...intercepted his first pass of the season and had one tackle vs. SEMO (10/4)...registered three tackles with a fumble recovery and a pass breakup versus Eastern Illinois (9/27)...his fumble recovery stopped Eastern Illinois on its opening drive of the game inside the JSU 20 yardline..credited with three solo tackles against UTC (9/20)...posted his second consecutive seven tackle game, including one for a loss of 10 yards versus Alabama A&M (96/)...tied for the team-high with seven tackles and had a fumble recovery versus Georgia Tech in the season-opener.
2007: Appeared in all 11 games as a sophomore for the Gamecocks, earning the starting nod in the final 10…finished the season ranked fifth on the team in tackles with 46, 36 solo…intercepted two passes, tying him for the team lead, and broke up a team-best seven passes…forced two and recovered one fumble...had five tackles vs. Alabama State...forced and recovered his first career fumble vs. Memphis...had three tackles vs. EKU...recorded a career-high 12 tackles, 11 solo, with an interception and forced fumble vs. Murray State to earn OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors...had four tackles in JSU’s 27-24 win over UTM, including the final pass break-up in the endzone with 11 seconds to play...had five tackles at Samford and one pass break-up...had four tackles and one pass break-up against EIU.
2006: Appeared in all 11 games for the Gamecocks as a freshman…tallied 31 tackles, 26 solo and five assisted, including one for a loss…also broke up four passes…picked up a career-best 10 tackles, all solo, and broke up two passes against Murray State on Oct. 5…recorded five tackles in a game twice, against Southeast Missouri on Sept. 16 and at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 18…picked up his lone tackle behind the line of scrimmage in the SEMO game.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Parker High School…was a four-year lettermen…was an All-State honorable mention safety as a senior after helping Thundering Herd to an 8-4 record as team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs…finished with 78 tackles and five interceptions as a senior…team finished 10-2 his junior year, where he record 54 tackles and a pair of interceptions…also lettered in basketball and track…was named team MVP for track.
PERSONAL: Full name is Carnell Clark…born on June 2, 1987…son of Carmel Clark…has one older brother, Brodrick, who played at Louisville…majoring in Sociology/Recreation at JSU.
