FINAL RESULTS
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Jacksonville State men's golf team used a final round 284 to jump into a second-place finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks leaped in-state rival Samford and finished just nine shots behind host and champion Austi Peay, who ended the 16-team tournament with a 54-hole score of 864. After a pair of six-under rounds of 282 on Monday, JSU closed with a four-under round on the par-72, 7,132-yard Links at Novadell and wrapped up the 54-hole event with a 16-under 848.
Senior
Tom Robson carded a two-under 70 in Tuesday's final round to climb three spots and finish tied for fourth in the 93-player field. The Portsmouth, England, native opened the tournament with a four-under 68 in Monday morning's first round before answering with an even-par afternoon round. He finished just two shots out of a playoff between Peay's Marco Iten and Samford's Drew Aimone, one that was won by Iten's 40-foot putt on the second playoff hole.
Robson's 54-hole total of 210 was three shots better than freshman
Tomasz Anderson, who tied for 15th for the Gamecocks after rounds of 71-70-72 left him with a three-under 213 in the event. Senior
Alfonso Otoya tied for 20th after a final-round 70 gave him a two-under 214.
Junior
Andres Schonbaum (74-70-71-215) tied for 23rd place, while sophomore
Dorian Fernandez (73-70-74-217) finished in a 33rd-place tie.
The Gamecocks beat Samford by two strokes and fourth-place Binghamton by 11, while OVC foe Eastern Kentucky rounded out the top five.
JSU will round out the fall schedule on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, when they play in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at the Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
