HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Jacksonville State dropped the consolation contest of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic to Georgia Southern, 72-49, on Saturday morning at Reed Green Coliseum.
JSU falls to 2-5 on the season, while GSU earned its second win of the season, 2-4.
GSU, who struggled scoring by posting 40 points in its Friday tilt with Stephen F. Austin, found the shooting touch against Jax State. The Lady Eagles started the early contest on a 20-4 run in the first ten minutes and eventually stretched the margin to 31-14 at the 6:10 mark. JSU, finished the final six minutes with an 8-5 run and trim the deficit down to 33-22 before GSU pushed the back out to 16 points, 38-22, at the halftime break.
Freshman
Briana Morrow reached double digits in the scoring column by halftime, pacing the Gamecocks with ten of her 15 points in the opening half. Morrow, from Nashville, Tenn., recorded her first collegiate double-double with a game-high ten rebounds.
Miranda Cantrell came off the bench for six points, scoring all six in the first 20 minutes. The GSU bench also sparked the Blue and White offense, scoring 19 of the 38 first half points.
Morrow was named to the All-Tournament team for her two-game performance.
GSU extended its 16-point lead at the break out to 21 points in the first six minutes of the second half at 49-28 and cruised to the 23-point win. GSU held its largest lead of 32 points at 72-40 with just over two minutes left in the game. The 72 total points is a season-high for the Eagles as they entered the game averaging 45.2 points per contest.
GSU's Meredyth Frye led all scorers with 16 points. Samantha Williams came off the bench for 11 points, while MiMi DuBose added ten points. The Eagles finished the contest, shooting 52 percent from the field, while limiting JSU to just 36 percent shooting. GSU crashed the boards, out-rebounding JSU, 42-30.

Danielle Vaughn turned in seven second-half points, while
Candace Morton and
Destiny Lane chipped in six points. Lane dished out three assists in 36 minutes of action.
The Gamecocks close out the month of November on Wednesday with a contest at in-state rival Samford University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. in the Pete Hannah Center.
