WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Jake Sharrock had three hits, including a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning, to lead Jacksonville State to a 3-2 win over Northwestern at the Russ Matt Central Florida Games on Friday.
The Gamecocks improve to 13-5 on the season after earning their fourth final at-bat win of the season.
Michael Bishop led off the bottom of the ninth with a one-out double to left center field that chased Northwestern reliever Michael Jahns after he pitched 3 1/3 innings. The Wildcats brought in Jack Quickley and quickly walked JSU's Coty Blanchard on four straight balls to put runners on first and second.
Sharrock then hit the second pitch he saw down the right field line to allow Bishop to score the game winning run for Jacksonville State.
Hunter Rivers (3-0) scattered three hits over four solid innings in relief of Gamecock starter Jordan Beistline, to earn the win. Jahns surrendered his only run to get stuck with the loss for Northwestern.
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead after Beistline gave up his first earned run of the season on a Chris Lashmet RBI double to right center field in the frst inning.
Jax State battled to tie the game in the home half of the second inning after Blake Seguin reached on a two-out single up the middle, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Bishop then hit an 0-2 fastball down the right field line to score Seguin and tie the game at 1-1.
Northwestern took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after Chris Kontos scored on a sacrifice bunt, but the Gamecocks answered in the fifth inning.
Bishop led off with a walk and stole second. Erik Underwood followed with a single to left center to score Bishop and tie the game at 2-2.
Sharrock led the Gamecocks' 10-hit attack with a season-high three hits, while Ben Waldrip, Blake Seguin and Bishop each had two hits. Northwestern was led by Colby Everett and Kontos with two hits each.
