
Jax State Tennis Cruises Past Tennessee State

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State tennis teams cruised past Tennessee State in Ohio Valley Conference tennis action on Friday at the JSU Tennis Courts as both squads blanked TSU, 7-0.
The win by the Gamecock men was the third-straight OVC win and pushed their overall record to 8-7, while the Jax State women kept their unblemished league mark intact at 3-0 and 6-8 overall.
In the men's match, JSU claimed both doubles matches played to take the early lead in the match. The Gamecock pairing of Brian Kenyon and Gustavo Holz turned back TSU's duo of Lawrence Washington and Shaun Ingram, 8-6. Holz and Kenyon have claimed their last six doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, JSU's tandem of Axel Sundberg and Nenad Marcec extended their consecutive wins streak to four by shutting out Gregory Ruffin and Skyler Dowdy, 8-0.
Kenyon and Washington dueled in singles with Kenyon coming out on top, 7-5, 6-3 over the Washington at No. 1. Sundberg, Marcec and Santos all turned in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 victories.
In the women's contest, breezed past TSU in doubles play and continued the dominance in singles play. Martina Dessbesell, Raisa Guasti and Marani Vivane moved to 3-0 in league play in singles with straight-sets wins over their opponents from TSU. Dessbesell ousted Shardel Suber, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Guasti defeated Khadijah Williams, 6-0, 6-0. Vivane, playing at the top spot in the line up, turned back TSU's Krystan Mason, 6-1, 6-1.
JSU's Saturday match with Southeast Missouri has been postponed due to the potential of heavy rains that are expected to sweep through the Jacksonville area on Saturday. The match will be played on Monday, April 4 at 1 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts. The Jax State men return to action on Monday at UAB in Birmingham.
