CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Sam Eberle had a pair of hits and hit a two-run home run in the last inning to lead Jacksonville State to a 5-2 win over Southeast Missouri State as the two teams split an Ohio Valley Conference double-header on Friday. The Redhawks claimed a 9-8 win in the opener.
Jacksonville State improves to 25-14 and 8-6 in the OVC, while Southeast Missouri is 24-15, 8-5 in the conference.
In the second game, Hunter Rivers (7-1) scattered five hits and had four strikeouts to earn the win, while Todd Hornsby recorded the final five outs to extend his school record to 11 saves on the season. Jon Dicus (3-3) got stuck with the loss despite just allowing five hits for the Redhawks.
The Gamecocks took the lead in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Ben Waldrip and a sacrifice fly by Blake Seguin as JSU built a 2-0 lead.
SEMO got a run in the home half of the fourth inning on a RBI single by Trenton Moses as the Redhawks cut the lead to 2-1, but the Gamecocks added a run in the sixth inning after Andrew Bishop walked with bases loaded to give JSU a 3-1 lead.
The Redhawks added a run in the sixth on a solo home run by Moses to cut the lead to 3-2, but Eberle slugged a two-run home run for this fifth of the season for the final margin.
Eberle and Sharrock led the Gamecocks with a pair of hits, while Sharrock scored three runs. Moses had two hits to lead Southeast at the plate.
In the opener, Nick Harris had three hits and hit a two-run home run to lead Southeast Missouri State to a 9-8 win over the Gamecocks.
Christian Hull (1-0) picked up the win after pitching just 2/3 inning for the Redhawks, while Casey Antley (1-1) got stuck with the loss after giving up two runs for the Gamecocks.
