JACKSONVILLE – Junior Todd Hornsby picked up a pair of saves to set the Ohio Valley Conference single-season record as Jacksonville State swept Morehead State on Friday as the Gamecocks won 7-4 in the opener and 7-6 in the second game.
Hornsby picked up his 13th and 14th saves in the double-header sweep to extend his single-season school record and Ohio Valley Conference record as the Gamecocks rallied for their 20th come-from-behind wins in both games.
Junior Aaron Elias (7-3) scattered eight hits and had three strikeouts to earn the win in the opener, while Hornsby tossed the final three innings and did not allow a hit to earn the save. Garrick Whittle (3-4) gave up nine hits in five innings to suffer the loss for Morehead State.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by Bud Morton, but the Gamecocks plated four runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good.
Andrew Bishop drove in a run, while Coty Blanchard singled to left field to score two more runs before Ben Waldrip added another run to give JSU a 4-1 lead.
Morehead State cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning, before Jax State added two more runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by both Andrew Bishop and Michael Bishop to give JSU a 6-3 lead.
The Eagles added a run in the seventh when Taylor Davis drove in a run, but Jax State's Scott Underwood had a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for the final margin.
Erik Underwood led the Gamecocks with three hits in the opener, while Blanchard and Andrew Bishop each drove in two runs.

Jax State rallied in the home half of the fourth inning to score four runs after Blanchard, Scott Underwood each drove in a run and Blanchard came around to score on a Morehead State throwing error to cut the lead to 6-5.
Jax State then scored two runs in the sixth inning as Blanchard's RBI single tied the game and Sam Eberle hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Blanchard and give the Gamecocks the win.
Michael Bishop, Matt McLaughin and Eberle each had two hits for the Gamecocks to go with three from Blanchard and Erik Underwood.
The two teams will play the final game of the OVC series on Saturday as the Gamecocks will recognize the team's four seniors prior to first pitch at 1 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
