
Leite's Double-Double Leads JSU Volleyball to Sweep of TTU

JACKSONVILLE – Junior Hivya Leite notched her first career double-double and the Jacksonville State volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-21) sweep of Tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
Leite, a native of Cabedelo, Brazil, led all players with 13 kills and picked up 11 digs to pace the Gamecocks (3-8, 1-0 OVC) to their second-straight win and an impressive sweep of the Golden Eagles (1-10, 0-1 OVC) in JSU's home opener.
Leite used a .385 attack percentage on 16 swings to account for her 13 kills, while her 11 digs tied senior Lauren Harkins for the team lead. The JSU defense held TTU to a .155 attack percentage and just 30 kills over the three sets. The Gamecocks hit .276 with 46 kills, while blocking four shots and finding the floor on five service aces.
Senior Liza Senenkova was the only other player with double figures in the kills column with 11. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan, native needed just 18 attacks and boasted a .444 attack percentage in the win. Senior Stephanie Koontz added eight kills on a .333 attack percentage, while sophomore Abbey Heredia and freshman Alina Agamy set up the JSU offensive attack with 20 and 17 assists, respectively.
Sophomore Kelly Cole pitched in nine digs on the back row, while Heredia's eight digs were fourth on the team.
The Golden Eagles got nine kills, apiece from Natalie Penrod and Ellen Conti, while Allison May led the TTU back row with 13 digs.
The Gamecocks will be at home on Saturday, when they host UT Martin at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
