JSU's Sam Eberle Named OVC Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's Sam Eberle has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Eberle raised his batting average 41 points to a team-high 356 last week after going 8-for-12 with four extra base hits to help Jacksonville State win its fifth straight Ohio Valley Conference series as the Gamecocks won 2-of-3 over Tennessee Tech.

The Chattanooga, Tenn., native posted a 1.250 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .714 as he extended his hitting streak to a season-best 10 games and he also leads the team by reaching base in 17 straight games.

In JSU's 5-2 win over Tech on Thursday, he scored a pair of runs and hit his first triple of the season. In game two, he scored two more runs and had a pair of hits, before saving his best for the series finale, where he was a perfect 5-for-5 and was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle. It was the first five-hit game for a JSU player this year and the second of Eberle's career.

Jacksonville State returns to action on Tuesday as the Gamecocks travel to face in-state rival Troy. Sophomore Bradley Raulston (0-2, 5.26 ERA) is slated to make his sixth start of the season for the Gamecocks.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field and the game can be heard on the JSU Radio Network with Mike Parris.
