JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will host Dalton State on Friday at 1 p.m. CT at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Kitty Stone Elementary Day.
The Gamecocks return home for a matinee with upstart Dalton State, who is in its first season as a four-year collegiate program. JSU is looking to rebound after a Tuesday loss at Auburn and searching for its first win of the young season. Jax State and the Roadrunners meet for the first time in men's basketball, with DSU spending its first season as an Independent at the Division I level of NAIA.
The Roadrunners are coached by former Kennesaw State head coach Tony Ingle, while Athletics Director Derek Waugh was the head coach at Stetson when the Gamecocks and Hatters were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference together.
In the Gamecocks' last time out, junior D.J. Felder notched his first career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. It was the first double-double by a JSU player this season and served as a bright spot in the 78-54 loss at Auburn. A native of Topeka, Kansas, Felder bumped his season averages up to 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game with his performance.
Junior Darion Rackley leads JSU in scoring with 14.8 points per night, while senior Brian Williams' 12.4 points average is the only other JSU player in double figures. Senior Nick Cook's 7.6 rebounds per game leads the team.
The Roadrunners have gotten their first season as a four-year program off to a fast start, winning eight of their first nine games. They are averaging 81.9 points per game, thanks in large part to 77 made 3-point field goals. They're led by Ricky Sears, who is averaging 15.7 points per game and leads the team with 20 made 3-pointers. Demetrice Jacobs is averaging 12.9 points and a team-high 9.8 rebounds per game.
