JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will host Central Michigan on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the Gamecock women, who host Mercer at 5:15 p.m. Fans ages 18 and under get in free.
The Gamecocks and Chippewas face each other for the second time in 17 days on the back end of a home-and-home series that started with a 66-61 CMU win over JSU in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Nov. 30. It is the second time the two have ever faced off on the hardwood and will be JSU's final home game before Christmas.
JSU is looking to bounce back from a loss at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon and gain some momentum going into the British Virgin Islands Tropical Shootout later in the week. The Gamecocks have won their last three home games, including a 63-52 win over Alcorn State on Wednesday.
Junior Darion Rackley currently leads the team in scoring at 12.0 points per game but has struggled of late. The St. Louis, Mo., native is averaging 6.2 points over his last five games and is shooting .344 from the floor and .250 from behind the arc. Senior Brian Williams is averaging 10.5 points per game on the year and has also dished a team-high 36 assists, but he has also struggled from the floor over his past six games, shooting 35 percent from the floor while going 2-for-19 from behind the arc.
In the Nov. 30 loss at CMU, Rackley and senior Rico Sanders led the Gamecocks with 10 points apiece, while the Chippewas got 21 points from Chris Fowler's 8-for-11 shooting night.
Fowler leads CMU on the year with an average of 17.2 points per game, while John Simons is scoring 11.1 points and pulling down a team-best 6.3 rebounds per contest.
