MONTGOMERY – The Jacksonville State men's and women's team got back in the winning column on Friday with a pair of wins of Alabama State and Alabama A&M.
The Gamecock men knocked off the Hornets of ASU, 6-1, in the morning match and blanked AAMU, 7-0 to wrap up the day at ASU's Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The Jax State women posted a pair of 7-0 victories.
In the men's match with ASU, the Gamecocks claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three courts by identical 8-4 scores. JSU continued its dominance over its in-state rival in the singles matches with its lone setback coming in a three-set match at No. 1 Senior
Axel Sundberg fell to ASU's Bobby Brand. Sundberg claimed the first set – 6-4, but Brand responded with back-to-back wins to record the Hornets' point. Sundberg bounced back in the afternoon affair with AAMU with a straight-sets win over Dominique Alexander. Senior
Igor Santos turned in a pair of wins at No. 2 versus ASU and moved into the No. 1 spot against AAMU. Santos ousted ASU's Lex Pierre – 6-2, 6-1 before taking down AAMU's Desta Sandy.
Senior
Nenad Marcec went 2-0 on the day in singles with straight sets wins. Marcec quick-worked Jarred Thompson of ASU, 6-0, 6-0 and a 6-0, 6-1 win over AAMU's Nicholas Burger.

Felipe Wenzel and
Felipe Watanabe all registered wins in both matches.
On the women's side, Jax State was equally dominant over the pair of in-state foes. The Gamecocks swept the doubles point in both matches, which was highlighted by a freshman tandem at No. 3 doubles in the AAMU match. The duo of
Taylor Lefton and
Isidora Knezevic, playing for the first time together this spring, blanked their opposition of Kara Kennemore and Quanda Jarrett. Knezevic carded a pair of singles wins as well on Friday.
Junior
Raisa Guasti recorded two wins at No. 1, while freshman
Olivia Nguyen was inserted in the No. 2 spot and won both matches in the line up. Sophomore
Zoe Bizinos moved to 4-2 on the season with a pair of wins, while Aleksandra Cmilijic won both her match at No. 6. Senior
Kelly Tomlin played at No. 5 versus AAMU and turned in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jarrett.
The Gamecocks return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in Macon, Ga. As they face the Bears of Mercer. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
