
JSU Baseball Suspended in Eighth Inning; Will Resume on Saturday

JACKSONVILLE – Southern Illinois built an 8-5 lead over Jacksonville State in the eighth inning before the game was suspended due to inclement weather and will resume on Saturday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field.
Brad Drust (0-0) is the pitcher of record for the Salukis after pitching two innings, where he allowed four hits and one run. JSU's Adam Polk gave up seven hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings after making his second career start for the Gamecocks on Friday.
Southern Illinois took the lead after Ryan Casillas led off the second inning with a solo home run and SIU added a run on a RBI single by Cody Daily for an early 2-0 lead.
Jax State cut the lead to 2-1 in the home half of the second after Coty Blanchard scored after Ty Pierce on an infield grounder.
The Salukis pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third inning when Donny Duschinsky knocked in Matt Jones, and then added three more runs in the fourth inning to build a 6-1 lead after Jones drove in two runs and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Jax State added a run in the fourth inningafter Andrew Bishop scored on a Ty Pierce's sacrifice fly and Griff Gordon scored on a RBI single by Paschal Petrongolo in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-3.
SIU added two runs in the top of the seventh, before the Gamecocks answered in home half of the seventh when Adam Miller drove in two runs to cut SIU's lead to 8-5 before the game was stopped due to heavy thunderstorms in the area.
Bishop has two of the Gamecocks' seven hits through the seventh inning, while Pierce and Miller each have a pair RBIs.
The final two innings will resume at 1 p.m., and then game two of the three-game series will follow.
