JSU OUTLOOK: Coaches are very excited his potential this season after coming into spring practice in the best shape and as healthy has possible since joining the team. His body is in much better shape this year than in the past. Played in the Cape Cod last summer and brings a lot of confidence back from that experience. 
 
JSU CAREER: (2012) Played in 50 games and recorded 45 starts as a sophomore…finished the season hitting. 230 with 32 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, one home run and drove in 13 runs…drew 22 walks and was hit by a pitch three times…posted a .316 on-base percentage…was 5-for-7 on stolen bases…had nine multiple-hit games and two multiple-RBI games… had his first multiple-hit game with two hits vs UAB (2/28)…drove in a pair of runs vs Kennesaw State (3/2)…had a season-high three hits and scored three runs at Morehead State (4/1), where he also hit a double….also scored three runs at UT Martin (4/13) and vs Morehead State in the OVC Tournament (5/24)…hit his home run at UT Martin (4/14), a solo shot…had a season-long 10-game hitting streak…posted a season-best 17 game streak of reaching base…earned seven starts at 2B, four at 3B, and 34 starts at SS.
 
(2011) Was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American after batting .335 as a true freshman…was named the OVC All-Newcomer squad after finishing second on the team with 78 hits, also had 16 doubles, one 3B, two HR and 32 RBI…led the team with 33 walks to post a team-best .423 on-base percentage…also was 8-for-12 on stolen bases…was second in the OVC with 25 multiple-hit games, just behind teammate Sam Eberle’s 26…had 17 2-hit games, six 3-hit games and a pair of 4-hit games…made his collegiate debut at MTSU on 2/25, and ws 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI…was moved to the leadoff spot on 3/4 vs Harvard and hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his first career home run…was 4-for-5 vs Harvard (3/4) and also had four hits at Tennessee Tech (4/3)…drove in a season-best 3-RBI at Tennessee Tech (4/3)…had three hits at MTSU (2/27) in his third career game…was 3-for-3 vs Bucknell on 3/19…also had three hits at Troy on 5/3…had his best series at Tennessee Tech, finishing 8-for-13…was 2-for-4 vs UTM in the JSU’s 9-8 win over UTM in the first game of the OVC Tournament…also had a pair of hits vs APSU on 5/27 in the semi-finals of the OVC Tourney…was 2-for-6 with a run scored in JSU’s 15-12 win over SEMO to advance the Gamecocks to the OVC Finals on 5/28…had a season-long 13 game hitting streak, which was the second longest on the team…posted a season-best 19 game streak of reaching base….started and played in 57 games, earning 36 starts at 3B, 13 at 2B and eight at SS.
 
JSU FOOTBALL CAREER: Played football for the Gamecocks as a junior during the 2012 season and was 17-of-38 with four touchdowns and 343 passing yards as a back-up quarterback…also had 42 carries for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help the Gamecocks post their 10th straight winning season with a 6-5 overall record…as a sophomore during the 2011 season, he took over as the starter at quarterback in the second week of the season…helped the team to a share of the OVC Football Championship with a 7-4 record…passed for 1,703 yards and 12 touchdowns, while adding 427 rushing yards and six touchdowns…as a true freshman in 2010, he was the starting punter and backup quarterback…helped the team post a 9-3 overall record, a No. 12 final ranking and into the second round of the FCS playoffs…named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and also to the OVC All-Newcomer football team…averaged 39.5 yards per punt and also added 296 passing yards and eight touchdowns…will be remembered for scoring the game-typing pass on 4th and 30 against Ole Miss and then completing the two-point conversion pass to Calvin Middleton the give the Gamecocks its first-ever win over a SEC opponent in the season opener.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Cherokee County High School for Jim Garmany…was an All-State selection after batting .524 with seven home runs and 29 RBI in 21 games as a senior…was named The Anniston Star Baseball Player of the Year in 2010…was a three-time team Most Valuable player…played in the North-South game and also the East-West game…also lettered in football, where he led the Warriors to the Class 4A State Championship and a perfect 15-0 record…was named Alabama Mr. Football by the Alabama Sports Writers Association…was named the Class 4A Back of the Year as a senior and was a two-time first-team All-State selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association…pass for more than 2,900 yards with 35 touchdowns and rushed for 1,160 yards with 20 touchdowns as a senior…was named to The Birmingham News Super 12, the Anniston Star Dandy Dozen, The Gadsden Times Dirty Dozen and the ABC 33/40 Friday Night Blitz Quarterback of the Year…helped team post a 14-1 record his junior year…played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic…also lettered in football and basketball…was an all-area selection for basketball, where he has scored more than 1,000 points.
 
PERSONAL: Full name is David Coty Blanchard…son of Fran and Tara Blanchard…has one younger sister, Candace…his father, Fran, played football for Jacksonville State from 1980-83…major is undeclared at JSU.
