BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's
Casey Antley has been named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today.
Antley pitched seven shutouts innings to help the Gamecocks to a 2-1 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Friday. The left-hander faced 26 batters and allowed just three singles and did not allow a hit after the first out of the third inning to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Holtville, Ala., native finished with five strikeouts and lowered his earned run average down to 2.86 on the season. He has pitched 34 2/3 innings, allowing 10 earned runs with 21 strikeouts to just eight walks this year, and held the opponents to just a .246 batting average.
Jacksonville State (11-10) returns to action on Tuesday against Troy University.
Taylor Sparks (0-0, 0.79 ERA) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Gamecocks, while Joe Hernandez (0-0, 1.59 ERA) will also be making his first start of the season for Troy.
Tuesday night is Talladega Superspeedway night at Rudy Abbott Field and fans will have the opportunity to win tickets to the Aaron's Dream Weekend at Talladega on May 4th. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
