JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's women's tennis team posted its second Ohio Valley Conference win of the season by topping Austin Peay, while the Gamecock men dropped a hard fought match to the defending OVC Champion Governors.

The Jax State women turned back the Lay Govs, 5-2, while the Govs won by the identical score in the men's duel.  The win by the women moved their overall mark to 6-7 and the men's setback dropped them to 6-6 on the season.

In the women's match, JSU took the doubles point to gain the advantage heading in to singles play.  The Gamecocks won the point after taking the matches at No. 2 and 3.  The duo of Aleksandra Cmiljic and Claudia Marsala downed APSU's pairing of Jovana Karac and Hannah Tatlock, 8-3 at No. 2.  After the Lady Govs' duo of Andra Cornea and Ornella Di Salvo claimed an 8-5 match over JSU's top tandem of Raisa Guasti and Olivia Nguyen, JSU clinched the point at No. 3.  The junior team of Zoe Bizinos and Danielle Kerindi bounced APSU's pairing of Vanessa Tavares and Isabela Jovanovic, 8-6.

Jax State maintained the momentum from the doubles point by winning five of the singles matches.  Singles play was highlighted by Guasti's play at No. 1 with APSU's Cornea.  Guasti, who moved to 3-0 against conference competitors, breezed past Cornea 6-1 in the opening set.  Cornea regrouped in the second set and had a 5-2 advantage over Guasti stormed back to win five consecutive points to post a 7-5 win for the point.  Marsala quick-worked Di Salvo at No. 2 – 6-4, 6-1 for the second singles point and the third team point.  Kerindi, combined with Isidora Knezevic and Sadey St. Amant, won in straight sets at No. 4, 5 and 6 to close out the match.

The Lady Govs' lone point came at No. 3 as Tavares out-lasted Bizinos in three sets for the win.

In the men's match, JSU had ample opportunities to win the doubles point and in singles play, but the Govs proved why they are the defending league champions with crucial wins throughout the line up.  In doubles, Jaryd Reese and Jefferson Wendler-Filho fell to APSU's Jasmin Ademovic and Aleksas Tverijonas, 8-7 (4).  Felipe Diaz and Pedro Wagner lost an 8-6 decision to Iago Seffrin and Dimitar Ristovski at No. 2.  JSU's tandem of Mathias Chaim and Dylan Gee registered an 8-6 win at No. 3 over James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro of APSU.

In singles, Wagner and Ademovic battled in three sets at No. 1 before Ademovic claimed a 6-4 win in the third-and-deciding set for the win.  Reese and Gee lost tiebreakers in each of their first sets before falling to Ristovski and Tverijonas respectively.

Wendler-Filo and Chaim recorded JSU's pair of points at No. 4 and 5 respectively.  Wendler-Filho moved to 2-0 in OVC play, while Chaim picked up his first conference win.'

Sunday's match with OVC foe Murray State has been postponed due to the impending rain that is expected to move though the area on Sunday.  The women's match with the Racers has been moved to Tuesday, March 18 at 10 a.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.  The Jax State men will return to action on Wednesday as the welcome Tennessee Tech to campus.
