JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis closed out the regular season with a 4-0 blanking of Georgia State at home Sunday. Prior to the match,
Polina Ramenskaja,
Irene Artigas, and
Isabella Sambola were honored for senior day.
The Gamecocks opened the match by taking the doubles point. On court two,
Irene Artigas and
Sae Kaneko defeated Georgia State's Sveva Bernardi and Sara Redojevic 6-2. Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one against Zeynep Erbakan and Maria Paredes.
On court three,
Emma Montagner and
Alba Roche were leading Mia Petrovic and Lamiss Haouas 5-3 when the match was abandoned due to Jax State claiming the point.
In singles, Montagner earned a win without having to play on court six as Georgia State had injury issues to deal with. Due to the match being forfeited, Jax State needed to only win two courts to take the match. Artigas won her match against Bernardi 6-0, 6-2 to make it 3-0 Gamecocks.
Kaneko won her match 6-3, 6-2 on court five to clinch the match for the Gamecocks. On court one, Ramenskaja lost her first set 6-2 against Paredes and was trailing 3-2 in the second when the match was unfinished. On court two, Patel took her first set Radojevic 6-4 and was behind 4-1 in the second.
Sambola lost her first set 6-2 against Haouas on court four. In the second set, Haouas was leading 4-1 in the second when it was unfinished.
Jax State will move on to the CUSA Tournament next week. More information will be provided at JaxStateSports.com when it is made available.
