JACKSONVILLE — A back-and-forth battle, between two teams primed for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, needed more than the 40 minutes of regulation to declare a winner.

On senior night, senior Candace Morton banked in a leaning 3-point shot at the buzzer to extend the game five more minutes. However, Jacksonville State's offense misfired during overtime and ultimately cost the Gamecocks the game as they fell 74-66 to Tennessee State.

The Lady Tigers (13-12, 10-4 OVC) outscored JSU 16-8 while limiting the Gamecocks to 1-of-9 shooting during the extra period. The lone made basket came by way of Briana Benson sinking a three with 26 seconds left in the game. However, JSU did go 5-of- 5 from the free throw line during overtime.
Morton led Jax State offensively as she finished with a game-high 20 points and four rebounds. She was 8-of-10 from free throw line in 39 minutes of action.

Courtney Strain played 22 important minutes off the bench and finished with 10 points and four rebounds. She knocked down two of four shots from behind the 3-point arc. 

Destany McLin started the game cold offensively, as she had zero points during the first half, but the Athens, Alabama-native finished with nine points and three rebounds. Briana Benson and Miranda Cantrell both finished with eight points for the night. Cantrell added nine rebounds on her senior night.
Freshman Tyler "Cocoa" Phelion chipped in with seven points, four rebounds and four blocks on the bench. Despite only scoring two points, Destiny James dished out five assisted while bringing down six rebounds.

JSU trailed for the first 10 minutes of the second half before a Strain 3-point shot put the Gamecocks up three with 9:29 left. JSU extended its lead out to seven moments later but TSU retook the lead following a Rachel Allen jumper with 2:02 left. Jax State battled back for the remaining two minutes of the second half and got the game to within three seconds before Morton's buzzer-beater.

TSU raced out to an early lead in overtime as former JSU player Briana Morrow made a layup less than 30 seconds into the extra period. Cantrell tied the game with two free throws 20 seconds later, but the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run over the game's next two minutes.
Morton made three free throws with 1:09 left to cut the deficit to four, but the Lady Tigers scored four straight to extend their lead out to eight prior to Benson's shot.

The loss drops JSU to 17-9 overall and 8-6 in the conference heading into Monday's game at Eastern Kentucky, which was postponed from Wednesday due to snow.

For TSU, Jayda Johnson and Chelsea Hudson both had a team-high 14 points while Hudson brought down eight rebounds. Imani Davis, Morrow and Allen all finished with 11 points for the Lady Tigers. Davis and Morrow also had seven and six rebounds respectively.
