TUSCALOOSA - The Jacksonville State men's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak halted on Sunday with a 6-0 loss to Alabama at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
The loss drops JSU to 4-5 overall, while the Crimson Tide improved to 2-8 on the year. The win over the Gamecocks was UA's second win over a JSU as it blanked the Tigers of Jackson State earlier in the day.
With weather concerns, the singles matches were contested first and after the Crimson Tide clinched the match, the doubles point was not played. UA won five of the six matches in straight sets, but sophomore Jaryd Reese bounced back after the first set to force a third-and-deciding set at No. 5 with UA' Stuart Kenyon. Reese extended the match with a 7-6 win the second set. Kenyon finished the match with a 6-3 third set win.
The match point was clinched at the No. 1 spot after Korey Lovett turned back Jax State's Pedro Wagner, 6-3, 7-5. Jefferson Wendler-Filho fell to UA's Danny Kerzneman, 6-4, 6-0. Dylan Gee and Mathias Chaim lost at No. 4 and 5 in straight sets.
JSU returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 against Kennesaw State in a match played in Marietta, Georgia. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
