
Men's Tennis Falls Twice at No. 45 Auburn

AUBURN – Before Jacksonville State men's tennis hosts a pair of Ohio Valley Conference home matches over the weekend, the Gamecocks dropped two matches on Thursday against in-state rival Auburn. The 45th-ranked Tigers claimed 4-0 wins at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The two setbacks dropped JSU to 5-9 overall, while AU improved to 14-7 on the season.
In the morning match, the Tigers won the doubles point with two wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Lukas Ollert and Marko Krickovic topped Jefferson Wendler-Filho and Pedro Wagner, 6-3. The first point of the match was clinched after AU's pairing of Oliver Plaskett and Petar Tomic edged JSU's team of Felipe Diaz and Jaryd Reese, 6-4.
AU's Krickovic turned in AU's second point at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wagner. Tomic ousted Reese 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 for the Tigers' third point. AU sealed its 13th win of the season after Plaskett turned back Felipe Wenzel – 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
In the afternoon match, the tandem of Wendler-Filho and Wagner returned the favor to the AU duo of Plaskett and Tomic at No. 1 doubles. JSU's pairing claimed a 6-3 win at the top doubles spot. The momentum from that win couldn't be carried over to the other doubles matches as JSU lost at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles, AU notched the second point after Dante Saleh won 6-2, 6-1 against JSU's Mathias Chaim. Wagner suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Maxime Hinnisdaels at No. 2. The Tigers closed out the day with Plaskett's 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Gabriel Pansera.
The Gamecocks will host Tennessee State and Belmont on Friday and Saturday respectively . JSU and Tennessee State will tangle at 12 p.m. on Friday, while the Bruins of BU will travel to the JSU Tennis Courts for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Gamecocks. The Bruins and Gamecocks shared the 2014 OVC regular season title last season and JSU downed the Bruins in the 2014 OVC Championship match last year in Paducah, Kentucky.
