JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team picked up a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference win on Friday against SIU Edwardsville, while the JSU women's squad saw its string of three straight OVC wins come to an end against the Cougars on Friday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The win by the Gamecock men pushed their overall mark to 8-10 and improved to 3-2 in league play.  Jax State women dropped to 6-11 on the season and 3-4 in OVC play.

In the men's match, JSU bounced back from dropping the doubles point to record four wins at the top-four spots in the singles lineup to post the win.  Sophomore Jefferson Wendler-Filho moved to 4-1 in the league with a 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot over SIUE's Nicolas Vincent.  Sophomore Dylan Gee remained perfect in the OVC at 5-0 with a three set win at No. 2.  Gee rebounded from dropping the first set to Marten Jonsson to win in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.  Sophomore Mathias Chaim also turned in a three set match after splitting the first two sets with Tristan Houle.  Chaim ousted Houle in the deciding set, 6-1.

Junior Pedro Wagner rounded out the Gamecock points after quick working SIUE's Nico Kuehn, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 4.

In the women's contest, senior Danielle Kerindi and sophomore Sadey St. Amant highlighted the afternoon for JSU.  Kerindi downed SIUE's Sierra Halverson at No. 5 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.  St. Amant won her fifth singles match in a row after dropping Haley Ilcewicz, 6-2, 6-4.

Freshman Genevie Ulanday and senior Zoe Bizinos dropped a pair of hard fought singles matches at No. 2 and 3 respectively.  Ulanday dropped the first set to Mia Frogner, but claimed a 7-6 second set before falling 6-3 in the third set.  Bizinos mirrored Ulanday by splitting the first two sets, but fell in the third set, 6-3 to SIUE's Monique Krutak.

The Gamecocks wrap up the home schedule on Saturday with an 11 a.m. league match with Eastern Illinois.  JSU will honor its seniors prior to the match with the Panthers.
