Tomasz Anderson Named PING All-Region By GCAA

COMPLETE RELEASE FROM GCAA

SARASOTA, Fla. – Another honor rolled in for Jacksonville State senior Tomasz Anderson over the weekend, when he was named to the Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The professional association of golf coaches of men's collegiate teams released its top Division I players from each region on Saturday and Anderson's name was atop the alphabetical list of players from the Southeast Region.

Anderson, a native of Hertfordshire, England, and the 38th ranked player in the nation by Golfstat, was the first of 10 individuals selected to the NCAA Lubbock Regional hosted by Texas Tech at the Rawls Course in mid May.

It was Anderson's fourth regional appearance in his four-year career at JSU. He competed with his team in the Bowling Green Regional as a freshman and the Sugar Grove Regional as a junior. He was an at-large selection as an individual one before to the Baton Rouge Regional in his sophomore season.

In the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, where he finished second, Anderson became just the third Gamecock men's golfer to be named Golfer of the Year since JSU joined the OVC in 2003-04 and the first since Nick Mackay and Matias Anselmo were co-Golfers of the Year in JSU's first year in the league.

Anderson claimed his third All-OVC honor as a senior after posting one of the most dominant seasons in JSU history. He finished in the top 10 in every tournament in the regular season, thanks to an OVC-leading 70.5 stroke average, a full stroke better than the school record of 71.5 by Anselmo in 2002-03.

Anderson posted three wins during his senior season to tie Mackay's school record from 2003-04. He ran his career wins total to a school-record seven, three more than Mackay's previous record.

His national scoring rating of 17 is better than Danny Willett's school record of 21 from 2005-06, while his 18 par or better rounds after Monday's opening round are sixth-most in school history. He is also on pace to set school records for par 4 scoring (3.978) and finish percentage (95.4%), while his 4.647 average in par 5 scoring is second best to Willett's 4.63 in 2005-06.

Anderson opened the year on top, tying the NCAA record and breaking JSU's record for low round with a final-round 60 to win the Golfweek Program Challenge. His 12 birdies in the record-setting round are the most by any player in the NCAA this season.

He entered the NCAA Regional with a 69.7 final round average, 15-best in the nation.

Anderson was the league's Freshman of the Year, an OVC All-Newcomer pick and a First Team selection in 2012 and an All-OVC pick in 2014. He was also and OVC All-Tournament performer in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
