JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Gamecocks make the short trip down Interstate 20 to Birmingham on Sunday to take on Samford at 3 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center.
Jacksonville State (5-3) enters the game on a four-game winning streak - the longest winning streak since the 2014-15 season. Three of JSU's four consecutive wins have come away from Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks picked up their second road win of the year Tuesday with a 72-69 victory over Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Tuesday.
Freshman Tyrik Edwards has been outstanding off the bench for the Gamecocks, scoring 32 of JSU's 89 points from the bench over the past four games. His 10 points at Alabama State set a new career high (previously nine, scored against Cal State Fullerton). He also pitched in a career-high five assists against the Hornets.
Samford (4-3) goes into the Sunday matchup with a 1-1 record at home. The Bulldogs, led by head coach Scott Padgett, is averaging 73.7 points per game and has out-scored opponents 516-481. Samford's home win came Nov. 26 with a 93-65 victory over Bethune-Cookman. It's only loss at the Hanna Center was an 106-103, two-overtime thriller.
