ATLANTA, Ga. – Playing its third match in five days, the Jacksonville State soccer team was extended to overtime and finished in a scoreless draw with Georgia State on Tuesday night in Atlanta.
Playing a rare midweek contest, the Gamecocks moved to 1-3-1 on the season while the Panthers posted their second consecutive draw after equalizing Kennesaw State in their last outing.
Jax State controlled most of the contest, including a 12-7 advantage in total shots, including six on goal chances. After both teams combined for four total shots in the first 45 minutes, JSU recorded six in the second half and three in the two extra sessions. JSU had shots from nine different players, led by two shots each by
Carsen Taylor,
Kayla Thompson and
Emma Meadows off the bench.
The Panthers did not have a chance on goal as junior goalkeeper
Caroline Robinson put together a clean worksheet with no saves in the shutout. GSU's Alexis Thomas had a team-best two shots in the draw.
The Gamecocks had chances throughout the contest, but could not finish one in the back of the net. JSU looked to close out the game with a free kick at the top of the penalty box, but
Danelle Lindo's attempt sailed just above the crossbar.
The Gamecocks return to action on Friday at home against Louisiana Tech. JSU and Tech will get underway at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches.
