CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team spends Monday and Tuesday in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the final two games of the Cayman Islands Classic.
The Gamecocks take on Savannah State Monday at 4 p.m. CT, and will face the winner of Chattanooga vs. Alabama State Tuesday with tip-off time to be decided.
JSU enters the tournament with the best record of the four teams at 2-1, while both Savannah State and Chattanooga stand at 1-2. Alabama State is still in search of its first with at 0-4 on the year.
Senior Malcolm Drumwright is just three points shy of becoming just the 24th Gamecock to join the 1,000 Point Club. The California native is sitting at 997 going into tonight's game. He scored a career-best 439 during the 2016-17 season, following up performances of 181 points his freshman season and 337 as a sophomore. The last Gamecock to score 1,000 points in his career was Darion Rackley, who ended his career with 1,341 in 2015.
Three games into the season, Jacksonville State ranks among the top of the Ohio Valley Conference in nearly every statistical category. The Gamecocks lead the league in scoring defense (61.3), scoring margin (+28.7), three-point percentage (.448), rebounding margin (+7.7) and shots blocked per game (6.3).
Christian Cunningham ranks at the top of the OVC as the No. 1 shot-blocker with 3.7 swats per game, and his 11 total blocks rank fourth in the NCAA.
