CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team visits Oregon State for the first time in program history Tuesday night at Gill Coliseum on the Pac-12 Network at 9 p.m. CT.
The Gamecocks (7-2) look to improve on their best start since the 2012-13 squad was 8-2 through 10 games. JSU is riding a three-game winning streak, while the Beavers (6-3) have won four games in a row.
Jacksonville State owns a 52.2 field-goal percentage, which ranks sixth in the NCAA and first in the Ohio Valley Conference. JSU is 270-517 from the floor and has not shot less than 40% with the exception of one game. Virginia Tech paces the nation with a 55.3 field-goal percentage. In addition, JSU owns the 17th-best three-point field-goal percentage in the nation with a 41.8 clip.
Senior Malcolm Drumwright leads the sharp-shooting Gamecocks with a conference-best 14.0 scoring percentage. Set to make his 45th consecutive start at point guard, Drumwright has been held below 10 points scored just three times in nine games this season.
The JSU defense is headed up by two of the most-feared shot blockers in the NCAA with Christian Cunningham and Jason Burnell. Each tallied five blocks in the win over ULM, while Cunningham ranks 22nd in the nation with 2.63 blocks per game. The 6-foot-7 Cunningham also ranks 77th in the NCAA with 8.6 rebounds per game.
Oregon State is second in the Pac-12 in steals (7.1), and third in field goal percentage (.487), free throw percentage (.740) and assists (16.0). The Beavers have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.73 (57/33) the last three games; it was 0.92 (87/95) the first six games. Freshman guard Alfred Hollins is shooting 73.7 percent (14-for-19) from the field. Oregon State is going for its second five-game winning streak under Wayne Tinkle.
