JSU Hosts Spartans, Christmas with the Gamecocks Saturday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team opens a five-game home stand Saturday with its annual "Christmas with the Gamecocks" celebration at 3 p.m. against USC Upstate at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Children three years old to sixth grade will receive a prize ticket upon entering the coliseum. Prize numbers will be drawn at the end of the game and participants will be called to receive a gift. All children are admitted free, and up to two adults will be admitted free per child. This year's event is sponsored by Calhoun County Commissioner Lee Patterson.
The Gamecocks (7-3) look to stay undefeated at home following a hard-fought road matchup with Oregon State from a few days ago. JSU is currently ranked 95th in the nation in the KenPom College Basketball Ratings and 146th in NCAA RPI.
Jacksonville State is 7-3 in non-conference games this season with three to play before opening Ohio Valley Conference action. While scheduled to play two fewer non-conference, regular season contests, this year's .700 winning percentage stands higher than last year's .533 (8-7) non-conference winning percentage. Winning the final three non-OVC games would put this season's squad in a tie for the best Division I, non-conference, regular season record with the 2002-03 team that finished 10-3 prior to the start of Atlantic Sun Conference play.
Senior guard Malcolm Drumwright led the Gamecocks to a thrilling 67-66 win over USC Upstate last season in Spartanburg, S.C. He fired up a long-range three-pointer at the buzzer that landed him on SportsCenter's Top 10 list.
The Spartans (3-9) come into the game looking to snap a five-game skid. Upstate is 0-7 on the road this season, playing just three of their 12 games at home, thus far. Malik Moore leads the team with a 14.7 scoring average with 11 starts. He leads Spartan shooters with a .453 field-goal percentage and ranks second on the team with 62 rebounds.
