JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team continues its five-game home stint Monday at 7 p.m. with a matchup against Howard University.
The meeting at Pete Mathews Coliseum is the first against the Bison (2-10) on the Gamecocks' home court and just the second overall meeting in program history. Jacksonville State claimed the inaugural contest last season with a 72-59 win in Washington, D.C.
JSU (8-3) looks to stay undefeated at home shortly after improving to 5-0 at The Pete with a win Saturday over USC Upstate. The Gamecocks have been nearly untouchable at home, outscoring opponents by an average of 26.4 points per game. It's the first time JSU has been 5-0 at home to begin a season since 2014-15.
Six Gamecocks scored in double-digits Saturday for the third time this season. Senior Malcolm Drumwright tallied 13 to bring his season total to a team-leading 163. The point guard currently ranks 28th in the nation with a 3.08 assist turnover ratio.
Howard picked up its first win in four games Thursday with a 76-65 win over Washington Adventist. The home win snapped a three-game skid that included losses to Penn, Georgetown and American University.
The Bison offense is headed up by freshman guard RJ Cole and sophomore forward Charles Williams. The two have combined to score 461 of Howard's 827 total points. Cole is averaging a ridiculous 19.8 points per game, while Williams isn't far behind with 18.6 per game. Unselfish with the ball, Cole also has a team-best 76 assists.
