JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's and women's basketball teams continue Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday, Dec. 30 at Pete Mathews Coliseum against Morehead State. The women tip-off at 2 p.m. with the men to follow at 4:30 p.m.
Both the men and women are coming off Thursday night wins over Eastern Kentucky to break in the 2017-18 OVC campaign. Tickets are now available for purchase online at JSUGamecocksTickets.com, by phone at (256) 782-8499 and on campus at the JSU Ticket Office at Kennamer Hall. Children 18-years-old and under and JSU students are admitted free.

The Gamecocks (10-4, 1-0 OVC) improved to 8-7 in all-time OVC openers and snapped a 5-game skid against the Colonels (6-8, 0-1 OVC) with a 76-58 Thursday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Jacksonville State is the first team in the OVC to reach 10 wins this season, while Belmont, Murray State and Tennessee Tech each have nine.
Head coach Ray Harper reached a historical milestone with the win, becoming the fastest head coach in JSU history to record 30 victories. Harper is 30-19 in 49 games at the helm in Jacksonville. His career record now stands at 461-146 in 19 seasons as a head coach.
Morehead State (4-8, 0-1 OVC) comes into the matchup having lost its OVC opener Thursday. The Eagles fell 69-67 in a close battle with Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. Despite trailing 36-28 at the half, Morehead State battled back with 39 second-half points, but the rally fell just short.
Jordan Walker leads the Eagles with 155 points this season, averaging 12.9 points per game. Morehead State has faced a challenging schedule, falling in matchups to No. 17 Xavier, Virginia Tech, Northern Kentucky and Butler. The Eagles have won three of their last five games.

The Gamecocks closed the first quarter against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday with an 18-2 run on their way to a 65-51 victory. Dating back to last season, JSU has won four of its last five OVC matchups, with the lone loss coming in last year's finale to this Morehead State squad, 85-82, on the road.
The Eagles' high-scoring offense that averages just over 77 points per game will face the top scoring defense in the league in JSU. The Gamecocks are holding opponents to just 55 points per game, and haven't allowed more than 60 in a game since Nov. 26. Saturday marks the 31st all-time meeting between the two teams with MSU holding a 19-11 edge in the series.
Since Rick Pietri's second game at the helm against MSU, the last seven meeting have all been decided by eight points or less, with JSU winning three of those. The six meetings prior to that saw MSU win all six by an average of 15 points.
